Clinical Manager — Role Overview
Reports directly to the Medical Director
San Dieo, CA
This role is designed for an operational leader who is comfortable operating across levels of the organization. The Clinical Manager provides senior-level administrative and operational leadership while remaining sufficiently close to execution to ensure systems, processes, and performance expectations are effectively implemented.
The position requires the ability to move fluidly between strategic oversight, analytical decision making, and hands-on operational leadership, particularly during periods of growth, transition, or complexity.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide administrative and operational leadership for clinical operations, ensuring alignment with clinical priorities, regulatory requirements, and organizational objectives. • Partner directly with the Medical Director to translate clinical strategy into operational frameworks, workflows, and performance expectations.
• Establish, monitor, and refine clinical operations KPIs, dashboards, and reporting structures; analyze performance data and present actionable insights to executive leadership.
• Lead and oversee performance management processes, including goal-setting, documentation, coaching, and performance improvement planning, in coordination with Human Resources.
• Support and guide operational managers while remaining engaged in operational detail as needed to ensure effective execution, consistency, and accountability.
• Participate in workforce planning, role design, and staffing assessments to support operational sustainability and scalability.
• Partner with Human Resources on employment-related matters such as leaves of absence, accommodations, and corrective action processes, ensuring compliance with California employment laws and internal policies.
• Lead the development, documentation, implementation, and governance of clinical operations policies, SOPs, and workflows.
• Identify operational risks, inefficiencies, and gaps; lead continuous improvement initiatives and change management efforts.
• Serve as a key liaison between clinical operations, executive leadership, compliance, IT, and other internal stakeholders.
• Prepare and present operational analyses, recommendations, and updates to executive leadership and leadership committees.
• Support audits, regulatory reviews, and corrective action plans related to clinical operations.
• Ensure operational practices remain compliant with applicable regulatory, accreditation, and payer requirements.
Role Scope & Expectations (Integrated Framing)
• The role requires regular exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance related to clinical operations, workforce performance, and organizational effectiveness.
• Operational engagement may include direct involvement in complex or escalated issues to ensure timely resolution and alignment with established standards.
• Routine timekeeping, daily scheduling, and task-level supervision are generally delegated; however, the Director maintains accountability for outcomes and consistency of execution.
• Employment actions are carried out in coordination with Human Resources and in accordance with Company policy.
What We’re Looking For
• 5+ years of progressive experience in clinical operations or healthcare operations, with increasing scope and accountability.
• 3+ years in a senior operational leadership role (Director, Senior Manager, or equivalent) with responsibility for performance management, operational oversight, and administrative leadership.
• Demonstrated ability to operate across strategy and execution, translating clinical or organizational priorities into workflows, policies, and measurable outcomes.
• Proven experience developing and managing KPIs, dashboards, and performance reporting.
• Hands-on experience leading performance management processes in partnership with Human Resources.
• Experience working directly with physician leadership and executive stakeholders.
Compensation & Benefits
