Job Description

What your day looks like

You clock in, lower your hood, and get to work shaping steel that keeps heavy industry moving. Using gas metal arc welding (MIG/GMAW), you join, fabricate, and repair parts to precise specs. You study blueprints and schematics, choose the right process, prep materials, and lay down clean, structurally sound welds. You check each bead, measure twice, and sign off only when it meets our standards.

Some days you’ll stage material for a welding robot or help set up a device; other days you’ll jump on a forklift or overhead crane to move a build into position. You’ll follow established safety rules and quality procedures, and you’ll pitch in on whatever else is needed to keep production flowing.

Core responsibilities

  • Join, build, and repair steel components using MIG/GMAW.
  • Read and apply blueprints, drawings, and weld symbols to select the proper process.
  • Inspect finished welds for integrity and appearance.
  • Prepare materials and assist with setup for welding devices/robots when needed.
  • Operate forklifts and cranes to safely handle material.
  • Support OMS safety and quality programs by following all procedures and protocols.
  • Contribute to team results and take on other related tasks as assigned.

Tools you’re comfortable with

  • Hand tools: hammer, pliers, screwdrivers, wrenches, drill, grinder, bander.
  • Measuring tools: tape measure, box caliper, slide dial caliper, micrometer.
  • Processing machines: able to set up and operate one or more as required.

What you bring

  • Successful completion of a MIG welding certification (required).
  • Ability to read basic blueprints and follow specifications.
  • Math fluency: convert fractions to decimals (and back) and metric to imperial.
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in quality for internal and external customers.
  • Experience through apprenticeship/vocational training or on-the-job learning (preferred).
  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).

Shifts

  • 1st Shift: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM, Monday–Friday
  • 2nd Shift: 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM, Monday–Friday

Work environment and physical conditions

You’ll work indoors and outdoors, with changing temperatures, loud noise, and equipment vibration. Expect exposure to:

  • Hazards: proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, high heat, and certain chemicals.
  • Atmospheric conditions: fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, or areas with limited ventilation.
  • Oils: contact with oils and other cutting fluids in the air and on surfaces.
