Job Description

PURPOSE:

Shattuck St. Mary’s (SSM), an independent college preparatory boarding/day school (grades 6-12) in Faribault, Minnesota, is seeking a full-time History Teacher for a collaborative one-year appointment starting in August 2026. Ideal candidates will be able to teach United States History and AP Psychology. This is a unique faculty position designed to provide instructional continuity while partnering closely with an experienced classroom teacher throughout the school year. The successful candidate will share responsibility for planning, instruction, assessment, and student support through co-teaching and collaboration, while also being prepared to assume primary instructional responsibilities as needed. We are seeking an educator who is flexible, collaborative, and committed to providing an exceptional learning experience for students.

SSM offers a mix of traditional and progressive education, combining classroom and online learning to best prepare students for college and beyond. Class sizes are capped at 18 students per section and the student body is motivated to succeed.

We are looking for a teacher who brings learning to life through engaging activities, hands-on experiences, and inquiry-based instruction. The ideal candidate enjoys working as part of a teaching team, builds strong relationships with students, and is adaptable as the needs of the department evolve.

SSM is a boarding/day school and faculty members are expected to be involved with both co-curricular activities and standard residential life duties involved with a residential school setting. In addition, full-time teachers serve as advisors to a group of students. Shattuck-St. Mary’s teacher salaries are based on experience and range from $39,000 for beginning teachers to the mid-70s for our most experienced faculty members. In addition to cash salaries, SSM teachers are eligible to receive generous benefits including family housing and meals on campus.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• The candidate will have demonstrated experience instructing in a student-centered, innovative educational environment, be familiar with technology in the classroom, and be well-versed in the academic and developmental needs of middle and upper school students.
• Bachelor’s Degree in History, Psychology, Education, or a related field required; Master’s Degree or relevant coursework preferred.
• Ability to teach United States History and AP Psychology.
• Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills.
• Candidates should have at least 2-4 years’ experience teaching; however, we will consider exceptional first-year teaching candidates.
