Role Overview
A prestigious K–12 school in Shanghai is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Secondary English Teacher to join its lower secondary division (Grades 6–8). The successful candidate will inspire a love for literature, writing, and critical analysis while building foundational skills in reading comprehension, grammar, and academic expression. This role requires a strong commitment to learner-centered instruction and the ability to support students transitioning from primary to more advanced secondary English studies.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging English Language Arts lessons for students in Grades 6–8, aligned with the school’s curriculum standards (e.g., Cambridge, Common Core, or National Curriculum of England as applicable).
Develop students’ skills in reading comprehension, creative and analytical writing, speaking, listening, and research.
Foster a classroom environment that encourages intellectual curiosity, respectful discussion, and a genuine appreciation for diverse literary genres.
Differentiate instruction to accommodate varying English proficiency levels, including EAL (English as an Additional Language) learners.
Assess and track student progress through formative and summative assessments, providing detailed feedback and actionable next steps.
Prepare progress reports and communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student achievement and growth.
Collaborate with lower and upper secondary English teachers to ensure curriculum alignment and smooth transitions.
Participate in departmental planning, professional development, parent-teacher conferences, and school-wide events.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree or higher in English, English Literature, Education, TESOL, Linguistics, or a closely related subject.
Minimum 3–5 years of relevant and focused teaching experience at the lower secondary level (Grades 6–8 or equivalent).
Stable work employment history with no frequent job changes (demonstrating reliability and long-term commitment).
Demonstrated success in teaching reading comprehension, essay writing, grammar, and literary analysis to middle school students.
Preferred Qualifications
PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education)
QTS (Qualified Teacher Status)
US state teaching certification (e.g., Standard Teaching Credential in English/ELA)
Experience teaching English in an international K–12 school setting in China
