Minimum Qualifications
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Must hold a valid non-restricted Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) in Tennessee.
· Three to five years of experience as an over-the-road driver with an exemplary record.
· Must possess excellent planning, organizational, and communication skills for the effective transfer of knowledge and skills to students for job placement in the field.
· Must possess computer skills necessary to be an effective instructor.
· Must be willing to remain current in the field.
· Must be willing to learn and use individualized instructional techniques.
· Must have excellent professional ethics.
· Show evidence of good character, organizational skills, and mature attitude.
General Duties
· The Truck Driving Instructor is responsible for teaching all phases of the program to include safety regulations; CDL regulations, traffic laws, road atlas and highway routes; instruments and cab controls; engine and air brake systems, adverse weather condition driving techniques; hazardous materials transportation; clutch, gear, and transmission patterns; coupling and uncoupling trailers, obstacle course and backing procedures; defensive driving; and over-the-road driving experiences. Assist in recruitment and job placement of students.
· Monitor, grade, and evaluate individual students’ progress.
· Maintain appropriate records and submit timely reports.
· Maintain good public relations with region employers.
· Promote the Truck Driving program to regional employers and prospective students.
· Maintain an active program advisory committee.
Salary:
Commensurate with qualifications, experience, education, and in accordance with the guidelines established the Tennessee Board of Regents.
