Job Summary:

The Department of Pediatrics is seeking a Researcher I to work in the Division of Genetics and Metabolism. This position supports translational biomedical research focused on rare genetic disorders using mouse models and human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived neuronal systems in the laboratory of Dr. Bryn Webb. The researcher will perform and manage wet-bench experimental studies, including characterization of genetically engineered mouse models, stem cell culture and neuronal differentiation, molecular and cellular assays, and data generation to support externally funded research projects. The work will focus on disease modeling in inherited mitochondrial disorders and a genetically defined ataxia syndrome. This role is essential to advancing mechanistic studies of human disease, supporting grant deliverables, and maintaining safe and compliant laboratory operations within a physician-scientist-led research program.

  • Conducts literature reviews, prepares reports and materials, and disseminates information to appropriate entities and assists with publications
  • Identifies concerns and recommends solutions to leadership
  • Trains individuals and groups on equipment operations, research protocols, and techniques within a specialized laboratory or research area

Compensation:
  • The starting salary for the position is $50,000 annually; but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications:
  • Hands-on experience with either mouse models or stem cell-based experimental systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with mammalian cell culture techniques.
  • Experience performing standard molecular biology and biochemical techniques, including DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, gel electrophoresis, and Western blotting.
  • Experience maintaining accurate laboratory records and adhering to established laboratory protocols.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with disease modeling in rare genetic, mitochondrial, or neurodevelopmental disorders.
  • Experience working with human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs), including culture, maintenance, and neuronal differentiation OR Experience with prior study of the brain in mouse models (e.g., tissue dissection, brain region isolation, histology, immunohistochemistry).
  • Experience with mitochondrial function assays (e.g., OXPHOS analysis, Seahorse metabolic assays).
  • Experience with microscopy.
Education:

Master's Degree is required; focus in biology, neuroscience, genetics, molecular biology, biomedical sciences, or a related field is required.
