SENIOR PRINCIPAL COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST

Support mission-critical initiatives and enable the growth of our business as a Senior Principal Communications Specialist at GDIT. Here, you'll become an integral part of how GDIT is able to ensure the safety and security of our nation.

MEANINGFUL WORK AND PERSONAL IMPACT

As a Senior Principal Communications Specialist, the work you'll do at GDIT will be impactful to the mission of Customs and Border Protection. You will play a crucial role in leading, developing, and executing communication strategies and campaigns to advance organizational goals. This role requires extensive experience in strategic communications, particularly in federal government. You will manage communications teams, ensure accurate content, drive outreach initiatives, and engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Leadership and Team Management:
    • Serve as a team lead and provide guidance to communications and outreach professionals.
    • Manage assigned Communications staff members, fostering collaboration and ensuring alignment on goals.
    • Coordinate with Communications management and department leadership to incorporate accurate information and maintain consistent messaging.
    • Lead the development of future communications leaders through coaching, mentorship, and capability building.
  • Strategic Communication Development:
    • Develop and revise communications and outreach materials and provide support for events, speaker engagements, and executive level briefings (including advertising, brochures, white papers, newsletters, and website content).
    • Develop external communications materials, including media/industry, news releases, PR support for events, and industry award submissions.
    • Create and update internal and/or executive communications materials including after-action reports, marketing slick sheets, web postings, newsletters, reports, events, speeches, presentations, and demos.
    • Develop, review, and provide thought leadership for the development of AI-enabled use cases, proofs of concept/proofs of value, and related supporting documentation
  • Campaign Management:
    • Plan, execute, track, and measure external and/or internal communications campaigns.
    • Work collaboratively with business owners, graphic artists, and program/client leadership to ensure campaigns are accurate, timely, and address strategic priorities.
    • Maintain knowledge of company services, products, and the competitive/industry landscape, incorporating relevant information into campaigns.
  • Proposal Support:
    • Support proposal development activities by contributing expertise and communication deliverables.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED

Education: Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science
Experience: 10+ years of related experience
Security clearance level: Current DHS U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) BI Clearance or Top Secret Clearance preferred or must have the ability to obtain one.
US citizenship required

Preferred skills and attributes include:
  • Experience managing strategic communications projects for federal government clients in international trade or law enforcement settings. In-depth expertise in international trade issues including familiarity with: CBP automated trade systems (e.g., ACE), import/export processes, CBP trade programs (e.g., forced labor initiatives), knowledge of trade community stakeholders involved in international trade.
  • Excellent leadership, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in event coordination, public relations, and branding strategies.
  • Analytical mindset for tracking and evaluating communication campaign efficacy.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, ensuring timely and high-quality deliverables.
  • Commitment to ongoing learning about industry trends, organizational offerings, and stakeholder needs.

The likely salary range for this position is $142,792 - $172,500. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
